I got it mainly so I could use Topaz Gigapixel and Video Enhance without cooking myself, or while watching the TV and considering neither of those apps are yet ported to the M1, its really not bad at all. The CPU is slightly faster than my gaming laptop, except I've not been able to get the SoC over 40C so far and its completely silent, whereas my laptop hits 90C and is deafeningly loud.
I'm absolutely stunned at the performance of this thing. However, I've been following the reviews of the new M1 ARM based Macs and finally had to get one, the first Mac I've ever bought. I think they are arrogant, greedy and especially with their laptops make some really bizarre design choices or outright design them to fail easily. You’ve already got users who are passionate about versions that are many iterations old, and every new set of models continues to expand the issue.I don't make it any secret that I'm not an Apple fan.
You can’t put out a product that works great in one release, and then just toss it aside in the next release for the sake of the next higher number in the series…that maybe you guys think is better, but the user base prefers the previous. This really isn’t so much an option as an absolutely necessity. I think something you guys need to and MUST take into consideration is when you get a model with a good reaction from the testers, such as the reaction to Artemis 9, you should NEVER make that model unusable, meaning that the files are locked, backed up, kept safe, and every future version has the ability to use them.

That is what I meant.Yes SSD life in long term is a concern,but also if I am going to re-download the same models again and again that is what made me mad about it.ġ)You lose time when you press the upscale button cos it gets downloaded from internet then it initialize.This takes time from user + extra bandwidth is spent + extra power consumption.Ģ)For your question if we have our models in hdd which are ready to use almost in any resolution for each model we know that next time or anytime,any resolution video will be faster to initialize when pressed preview or for the final output.It is like having the whole package in place.ģ)Not everyone has great internet connection in all around the world.Imagine the waiting time to load the model.So huge data in total will be very problematic to download if they are deleted for no reason.They are well deserved to be kept by the user.Ĥ)I also mentioned mini patches to go from 1.8.0 to 1.8.1 so to say.If not everything is changed between versions why is it forced to be downloaded 1.8 gb setup each time?ĥ)I am using VEAI almost from the alpha stages without gui,back then it was called gigapixel for videos.I was giving a lot of feedback in the past but then I quited the beta program,cos I thought I am not that very useful anymore and there was/is this behavior unfortunately for Topaz going forward and backward at some point.This happened again going from 1.8.0 to 1.8.1. We are working on a solution to this for setting a size limit on the models folder but it is not out yet, Of course over time your app will keep downloading models and the folder will get large again,
There is an installer feature we are working that will let users keep their old models, but there are many things to consider with such a feature.īackwards compatibility is not always possible and sometimes architecturally not worth the cost, so if we did for example create a new type of model, we would want a way to start with a fresh slate and not have any old files lying around.Īlso, that is an extra 30GB you now have freed up that you can use for anything else. If you are concerned about losing the models we can take that into account, but we did not think people would be looking into their models folder and worrying about things like this. Your app ships with a default set, and downloads optimal models for your loaded video at run time. All of your models will re-download as your app requests them.
